Route 28 is a state highway in New Jersey, United States that stretches for 26.63 miles (42.86 kilometers). Its western terminus is at U.S. Route 22 in Bridgewater Township, and in fact is on an old alignment for US 22. Its eastern terminus is at Route 27 (Cherry Street) in Elizabeth. The road begins at U.S. Route 22 in Bridgewater, New Jersey as a divided roadway. After crossing a stream in Bridgewater, the roads merge together and become one highway in the borough of Raritan. At a traffic circle in Raritan, Route 28 meets up with U.S. Routes 202 and 206. Route 28 crosses many 500-series county roads in the order of 567, 525, 527, 529, 531 and 509. New Jersey Route 28 ends in Elizabeth, New Jersey at Route 27 and Chilton Street, 26.44 miles from its western terminus. The highest speed limit on Route 28 is 45 mph (70 km/h) in Bridgewater, Raritan, Somerville and Bound Brook. The lowest speed limit is 25 mph (30 km/h) in Westfield and Cranford, not including 25 mph School Zones in Bridgewater, Bound Brook, and Middlesex Borough. .

Route description

New Jersey Route 28 begins off of U.S. Route 22 in Bridgewater Township. Route 28 was formerly part of U.S. Route 22, which was formerly NJ Route 9 prior to 1927.
